By , About.com Guide

Baseball fans can be a part of the 2009 All-Star Game festivites in St. Louis without spending any money on tickets. The St. Louis Sports Commission is looking for about 2,000 volunteers to work at the All-Star FanFest and as St. Louis Ambassadors during All-Star Week.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Varies

Here's How:

  1. Register to become a volunteer by filling out an online application at mlb.com. The application is on a secure site and asks for personal information including your social security number. All volunteers must be 18 or older and are subject to a background check.
  2. Decide where you want to volunteer. The Sports Commission is looking for two kinds of volunteers. All-Star FanFest volunteers will work at the interactive fan event at America's Center. FanFest volunteers will work as hosts, information guides, skills game coaches and more. St. Louis Ambassador volunteers will greet guests at the airport and hotels, work as transportation assistants and provide information about St. Louis to visitors.
  3. Wait for word on whether you've been selected as a volunteer. Everyone chosen will be notified by e-mail and a letter in the mail. Selection letters will go out in mid to late June.
  4. Attend a training session. All volunteers are required to attend a training session in early July. Most training sessions will be held in the morning or evening to make it easier for most people to attend.
  5. Work your event. All volunteers will need to work a five hour shift for three consecutive days. Friends and family members can register together and request to work the same shifts.
  6. Enjoy the perks. Volunteers will be part of the excitement of 2009 All-Star Week in St. Louis. Everyone who volunteers will receive at special shirt, hat and fanny pack. Volunteers also have an opportunity to win All-Star Game tickets.
