St. Louis is a great place for the Irish - or even just those wanting to be Irish for a day. What other city can claim to have two widely popular St. Patrick's Day Parades?
Here are all the details on the the parades, plus recommendations on the area's best Irish restaurants, pubs and shops.
St. Patrick's Day Parades
Sure, most cities have a St. Patrick's Day parade, but here in St. Louis we go a step further, we have two. Both draw large crowds every year, although each has a strong following that proclaim their parade to be the "official" St. Louis St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The Downtown Parade
On March 15, the streets of downtown St. Louis will become a sea of green as thousands of visitors attend the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. This family friendly event will feature more than 120 marching bands, floats and giant balloons. The parade begins at noon, at 18th and Market Streets and makes its way east to Broadway and Market. Before or after the parade, stop by the Irish Village in Kiener Plaza for food, shopping and live music. See pictures of past Downtown Parades.

18th and Market
The Hibernian Parade
Every year on St. Patrick’s Day, crowds flock to the Dogtown neighborhood for the Ancient Order of Hibernians Parade. You won't see giant balloons or floats in this parade, but there are plenty of local Irish families who proudly march to honor their homeland. After the parade, the crowds stick around for a big street party, although it may be less rowdy than in years past. The Hibernians say no outside alcohol will be allowed in the parade area this year. Tamm and Oakland
St. Louis has some of the best Irish restaurants and pubs this side of the Mississippi. You can bet they'll all be packed on St. Patrick's Day, but after the parades, they're a great place to celebrate with your clan. Here are my favorite Irish Pubs and Restaurants in St. Louis.
Whether you're looking for a green sweatshirt that screams "Kiss Me I'm Irish" or more traditional (or more subtle) Irish clothes, there are multiple shops in St. Louis that have what you're looking for. They're also great places to shop for gifts, carrying everything from Waterford Crystal to handwoven Irish sweaters. Here are Irish shops in St. Louis that sell the best of the Emerald Isle.
