Each year, local Wehrenberg Theatres help out the Savlation Army food pantries by hosting the Cans Film Festival. Anyone who brings 5 cans of food to a Wehrenberg Theatre, can see a movie for free before 5 p.m. If you bring an additional 10 cans (15 total), you'll also get a second pass to see a free movie on another day.

The World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park hosts its Owl Prowl most weekends in December. A WBS naturalist will teach visitors about owls and their unique calls. Then, you'll take a night hike through the grounds to see and call wild owls. Admission to the Owl Prowls is $9 for adults and $7 for children younger than 12. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 636-225-4390.

December weather is cold enough (usually) for skiing in St. Louis. Workers at Hidden Valley Ski Resort are busy making snow to get the runs ready for opening day in mid-December. Hidden Valley offers daily skiing, plus special events like midnight ski and holiday parties.

Learn all about the world of bugs in the special exhibit at the St. Louis Science Center. Explore bug habitats, social structures and food supplies through a series of interactive exhibits. General admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children. Science Center members get in for half-price.
The Missouri History Museum is celebration 250 years of St. Louis history with KMOX radio host Charlie Brennan. Hear stories from Brennan's new book "Amazing St. Louis" at a free event.
