The weather is getting colder, but there's plenty to see and do in November in St. Louis. You can attend our annual film festival, enjoy a cocktail party at the St. Louis Zoo or do a little holiday shopping. Here are the top picks for things to do in November in St. Louis.

Movie Music with the St. Louis Symphony

Star Wars. Jaws. Raiders of the Lost Ark. You'll hear the St. Louis Symphony play music from all of these hit movies and more. The Symphony is performing two special concerts featuring the "Movie Music of John Williams." Williams is one of the most successful American composers in history having worked on more than 100 films. Tickets are $25 to $75 and can be purchased online or at the Powell Hall Box Office.

St. Louis International Film Festival

Movie buffs have the chance to see dozens of independent films at the 18th Annual St. Louis International Film Festival. The films are shown at the Tivoli Theatre, Plaza Frontenac and several other venues. Many of the filmmakers participate in discussions after the screenings. It doesn't matter if you're in the mood for a comedy, drama or documentary, the St. Louis International Film Festival has something for everyone. In 2009, there's also a special screening of the new George Clooney movie "Up in the Air" that was shot in St. Louis earlier this year.

The Black Crowes in Concert

The Pageant on the Delmar Loop has a full calendar of music this month including a performance by The Black Crowes. The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets for the main floor and the balcony are $35. The can be purchased online or at The Pageant Box Office.

Friday the 13th Tour

It's no secret Alton, Illinois, is one of the most haunted small towns in America. If you'd like a good scare, join the Friday the 13th Tour through town. You'll visit several haunted locations including the old Mineral Springs Hotel where there will be a seance in the haunted pool. Owl Prowl

The World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park invites you to an evening adventure. Most weekends in November, you can go on an Owl Prowl. A WBS naturalist will teach visitors about owls and their unique calls. Then, you'll take a night hike through the grounds to see and call wild owls. Admission to the Owl Prowls is $9 for adults and $7 for children younger than 12. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 636-225-4390, ext. 0.

World Bird Sanctuary

Way of Lights

Get into the Christmas spirit with a visit to the Way of Lights in Belleville. Drive through more than a million holiday lights spread out over a mile and a half. There's also a laser light show, petting zoo and a display filled with decorated Christmas trees. The Way of Lights is open daily from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Gardenland Express

It's all aboard for some holiday fun at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The Garden is kicking off its holiday season with its "Gardenland Express" annual flower and train show. The show features model trains that wind their way though a miniature landscape filled with winter scenes and surrounded by poinsettias and other flowering plants. The display is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 plus the price of Garden admission.

Great River Road Run

The Great River Road Run is one way to burn off some of those Thanksgiving calories. You can choose a two mile or ten mile course. Each takes you along one of the most scenic roads in the St. Louis area. Registration is $25 in advance or $35 the day of the race.
