There are many reasons to visit downtown St. Louis. The Gateway Arch, Busch Stadium and Union Station draw in hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Downtown is also a good place to go when you're looking for a restaurant. Whether you want steaks or Italian, traditional American cuisine or just a good Irish pub, you'll find a place for just about every taste in downtown St. Louis.

1. The Dubliner

The Dubliner is one of the newest Irish restaurants in St. Louis, but it is already making a name for itself with a menu featuring fresh, locally grown produce and locally supplied meat. Located on trendy Washington Avenue in downtown St. Louis, the Dubliner is also the "hip" Irish place in town. The place has a spacious loft feel - which is terrific if you're looking for an alternative to the traditional cramped and smokey Irish bar. There's live music on weekends, and always great Irish food, including a unique but delicious Sunday brunch.

2. Mike Shannon's Steaks & Seafood

Mike Shannon's is a classic steakhouse near Busch Stadium that celebrates all things Cardinals. Plan your evening right and you could be eating dinner next to Tony La Russa or Chris Carpenter. Even if you don't see a ballplayer, you can enjoy a great meal in one of the best temples to baseball this side of Cooperstown.

3. Harry's Restaurant & Bar

Harry's has been a downtown favorite for many years. The restaurant features high quality cuisine like beef tenderloin, lamb shanks, salmon and pasta. If you're looking for something a little more casual, the bar menu offers sandwiches, salads and pizzas. Harry's happy hour is popular with downtown workers and the restaurant even offers shuttle service to major downtown sporting events.

4. An American Place

An American Place is building a reputation as a great St. Louis restaurant. That's because it's owned by world-renowned chef Larry Forgione who has been a successful restauranteur and caterer for nearly 30 years. 5. Broadway Oyster Bar

The Broadway Oyster Bar is a little taste of New Orleans in downtown St. Louis. The restaurant's a great place for drinks and local live music, but you'll also find tasty Cajun-Creole dishes like red beans & rice, crawfish and jambalaya. When the weather's nice, check out the outdoor seating on the patio.

6. Schlafly Tap Room

The Schlafly Tap Room is for those who enjoy beer with their meal. The Tap Room combines high quality pub food like crab cakes, steamed mussels and schnitzel with Schlafly's signature beers. You'll find brews like Pale Ale and Oatmeal Stout on the menu any time of the year, or for a special treat try a specialty or seasonal beer.

7. Charlie Gitto's Downtown

Charlie Gitto's has been serving up casual Italian fare in downtown St. Louis for more than three decades. The restaurant's menu is filled with traditional favorites like spaghetti bolognese, fettuccine alfredo and lasagna. The Gitto's salad paired with toasted ravioli also makes a great meal. Charlie Gitto's central location near Busch Stadium and the Edward Jones Dome makes it a good choice before a Cardinals or Rams game.

8. Top of the Riverfront

The Top of the Riverfront restaurant, at the Millenium Hotel, offers fine dining with some of the best views of St. Louis. The restaurant is on the top floor of the hotel, 28 stories above the ground. Plus, it rotates 360 degrees, giving diners incredible views of the Gateway Arch and the downtown skyline. The Top of the Riverfront serves steak, seafood and other traditional American cuisine.

9. Wasabi Sushi Bar

Sushi lovers can find what they're looking for at Wasabi. The restaurant on Washington Avenue offers a wide variety of sushi and other Japanese cuisine. Try the shrimp tempura appetizer, then dig in to the California or spicy tuna rolls. Reservations are recommended.

10. Tony's

You can't really do a list of downtown St. Louis restaurants without including Tony's. When it comes to fine dining in St. Louis, no one does it better than Tony's. The restaurant is known for its incredible service, delicious Italian food and extensive wine list. When you dine at Tony's, you can expect a meal made from the finest ingredients available.
