St. Louis Judge Loses Court Fight Over Red Light Cameras

Monday November 9, 2009

Many St. Louisans have been waiting for a decision in the court case involving Circuit Judge Robert H. Dierker and the city's red light camera program. Last week, a judge dismissed Dierker's efforts to have the case thrown out on constitutional grounds. Dierker had argued that red light cameras violate the constitution because they presume a person is guilty. Now, Dierker's case will go to trial to determine if there was a red light violation.

The ruling in the Dierker case is similar to a previous decision on red light cameras in Arnold. In July, a federal court found that Arnold's red light camera program is constitutional.
