My wife and I are always looking for kid-friendly restaurants where we can take our two young sons. A friend suggested we check out Hartford Coffee Company near Tower Grove Park. We went there the other day for breakfast and were quite impressed. The owners have done a nice job of combining the elements of a traditional coffee house (strong java, comfy seating, free wi-fi) with kid-friendly touches like a play area in the back of the restaurant. The toys in the play area are well worn, but my sons still loved the train table, mini kitchen, books, games and more.

The menu at Hartford Coffee Company is mostly soups, salads and sandwiches. There's also a variety of pastries, muffins, cheesecakes and fruit smoothies, As I mentioned, we went for breakfast. My wife had the frittata and I had an egg and bacon sandwich. Both were good, but a word of caution, the bacon is spicy!

Hartford Coffee Company is located just south of Tower Grove Park at 3874 Hartford Street. It's open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The phone number is 314-771-5282.
