Saving Money at Local Grocery Stores

Wednesday October 8, 2008
With the current economic situation, my wife and I are looking to save money where ever we can. My wife has recently started using coupons a lot more when she goes to the grocery store. I thought I'd pass along some of the things that are saving us money and see if anyone else has other tips they'd like to share.

One easy way we save money on groceries is by shopping on "coupon Thursdays" at Shop n Save. Once or twice a month, you can get $10 off your purchase of $50 dollars or more simply by shopping on a specified date. You don't have to have a coupon at all, they simply deduct $10 from your grocery bill at the checkout. The next "coupon Thursday" is coming up this week on October 9.

My wife also signed up for a website called couponmom.com a few months ago. The website takes the weekly sales ads from Schnucks and matches them with coupons from the Sunday newspaper. That way you can use a coupon on an item when its already on sale and save even more money. The website also matches up coupons with sales for Target, Walmart and Walgreens, but unfortunately doesn't have Shop n Save or Dierbergs (yet). You do have to register on the website, but it's free and easy to do.
