More Ways to Celebrate This Labor Day Weekend

Wednesday August 27, 2008

No matter where you live in the St. Louis area, you can find a fun festival or event to celebrate the long Labor Day weekend. My favorites are the Greek Festival in the Central West End and the Big Muddy Blues Festival on Laclede's Landing. For more on those and other festivals, read my Labor Day Events article. I've also discovered a couple of other ways you might want to spend some time this weekend.

Jersey County Victorian Festival - In Jerseyville, Illinois, this weekend is all about celebrating history. The annual Victorian Festival on the grounds of the Fulkerson Mansion includes Civil War reenactments and a reading of the Gettysburg Address by President Lincoln. There are also stagecoach rides, woodcarving demonstrations, food booths and bluegrass music. The festival is open August 30 through September 1, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $7 for adults, $2 for older children and free for kids under 6.

O'Fallon Labor Day Concert - Residents and visitors in O'Fallon, Missouri, are invited to a free concert on Labor Day. The Community Concert Band will play a variety of music including Hollywood hits, Broadway tunes, patriotic marches and more. Everyone is encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and blankets or lawn chairs and gather around the bandstand. The concert begins at 7 p.m. in Civic Park on September 1.
